Donated Artworks Brighten up the Outpatients Dept at Stafford Hospital
22 May 2012

Hednesford resident John Simons, who uses the Outpatients Department at Stafford Hospital on a regular basis, was inspired to help brighten up the department’s walls with artworks.
As a result, John, aged 75, and his friends in the Phoenix Activities Club donated six framed and mounted pictures/photographs and staff members Paul Cooper and Catrina Cornwall have been working to add to the total – in early May the 30th picture was put up.
In September last year, John, gave a presentation to the Trust’s Patient Experience Group on behalf of the Phoenix Activities Club (PAC), which is based in Rugeley.
This group is made up of over 500 retired and semi retired people who have a range of interests including artwork and photography.
John said: ‘When I used to sit waiting in the corridors of outpatients, I was uninspired and the blank walls did nothing to dispel my anxiety – now the pictures are up, it looks so much better.’
Paul Cooper, who is Patient Experience & Complaints Manager at the Trust added: ‘We would like to take this opportunity to say a sincere thank you to John and the group for preparing these and also thank them for the time they have taken to frame them so well for us.
‘The environment has been significantly improved by the addition of these pictures and other patients and relatives have already started to comment on how good they are.’
