Donation to Stafford Hospital’s Maxillo-Facial Cancer Department
06 November 2012
The grateful family of former patient David Birch have donated £640 to the Maxillo-Facial Cancer Department at Stafford Hospital after organising a rock night in a Stafford social club.
Mr Birch’s wife Christine and daughter Carol honoured his wish to present the department with funds to buy a suction machine which some patients use after surgery to help them leave hospital and go home.
Carol, who lives in Stafford, organised the Rock Night, featuring three local bands, at Highfield Social Club, with the support of the Oxleathers Motorcycle Club, of which she is a member.
Christine, also from Stafford, said; ‘Without this machine, people can’t go home – it enables them to live their last days in their own environment, which is so very important to them and their families.’
Friends and family attended the event in October, raising £640 through raffles, an auction and a barbecue.
The funds will be used to purchase a fourth suction machine for the department.
Jacqueline Miller, Clinical Nurse Specialist, said: ‘The machines we already have are constantly in use, so this one will be much appreciated by our patients. I would like to thank the whole family for thinking of us.’
