X-ray, or diagnostic imaging plays a key role in the diagnosis of disease and injuries and in the monitoring of changes inside the body.
The investigations/examinations offered to patients include:
CT (computerised tomography)
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) – An MRI scanning service is provided to the Trust by independent sector providers Lodestone Patient Care
There is an open access GP patient service at both hospitals where patients who have an x-ray request form from their GP (for general X-rays such as chest x-rays) can attend the department without the need to make an appointment. This service is available Monday to Friday between 9.00am – 7.30pm (Patients attending Stafford Hospital please try and avoid our busiest time on a Monday between 5.00pm and 7.30pm)
For more specialised examinations, such as ultrasound, CT or MRI, appointments are necessary.
You may be asked to change into a hospital gown for some examinations, and you may wish to consider bringing your own dressing gown just in case, however, a hospital dressing gown can be provided.
If you are attending for a specialist imaging procedure, for which you will have been given an appointment you will also be sent an information leaflet explaining the procedure and any preparation required.
